Next July, Pondok Cabe Airport Will be for Commercial Flight

PT Garuda Indonesia, national flag carrier, will operate flights from Pondok Cabe Airport in South Tangerang in July, 2016.

“We will be ready to operate the Pondok Cabe airport commercially. We hope it will be fully in operation by March 2016,” Garuda president director Arif Wibowo said.

Garuda will serve flights from Pondok Cabe to Central Java, Yogyakarta, South Sumatera and South Kalimantan.

Before used as commercial airport, Garuda will first repair the 1,984 meter long and 45 meter wide runway of the airport and terminal facility to make it strong. The government agree that Garuda take over the operation of Pondok Cabe airport of the state oil and gas company Pertamina to be used for short distance commercial flights. Currently, Pondok Cabe does not handle regular airline traffic.
