Indonesia Tourism Growth in the First Semester of 2015

In the first semester of 2015, Indonesia welcomed more than 5.47 million foreign tourists. Indonesia got positive growth of up to 3.86 percent in January-May or 2.69 percent in January-July compared to last year.

According to data from Biro Pusat Statistik (Indonesian statistic agency), the highest growth of foreign nationals visiting the country in July, 2015 came from China (19.99 percent), India (10.35 percent), UK (9.99 percent), Egypt (9.66 percent) and Saudi Arabia (4.14 percent).

The most popular destination is Bali island. In January until May, 2015 there are 1,555,609 foreign tourists have visited Bali, an 11.3 percentage point growth from the same period last year. Most tourists come from Australia, China and Japan.

The positive growth is not happen in nearby countries. Malaysia and Singapore recorded negative tourism growth between January and May by 8.6 percent and 4.1 percent.

Indonesian government attract more tourists by granting of visa-free entrance to citizens of 30 countries all over the world for a holiday with the maximum duration of 30 days. This new policy comes into effect on 1 July 2015. By giving visa requirement for these 30 countries, Indonesi targets to increase foreign visitors by around 5 percent to 10 million in this year.
