Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil (kang Emil) has disclosed that Bandung City has joined an international green city organization under the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

“Joining the international green city network is not easy. It is only for chosen cities. Thanks God, Bandung has been selected to represent Indonesia,” kang Emil said.

He explained that representatives of the international green city network went to Bandung on Wednesday to gather input on how to settle problems hindering Bandung from becoming a green city.

“Within the next five years OECD representatives will provide help on green city issues with funding support from member countries and the United Nations,” he said.

Kamil expected that the assistance would help Bandung City speed up work and program that were not financed by the regional budget.

“The focus will be on policy support. They (OECD representatives) are in search for the five biggest problems faced by Bandung City. A two-day workshop is being held in Bandung in connection with the representatives’ visit,” he added.

Kang Emil hopes that the forum will help Bandung realize the concept of green city by accelerating government programs resulting from the discussion. Currently, the Bandung administration is striving to add more green spaces by building many parks in the city, including music, transportation, film and superhero-themed parks.
